Crêpe (pronounced /kreɪp/, French IPA: [kʀɛp]) is a type of very thin, cooked pancake usually made from wheat flour. While crêpes originate from Brittany, a region in the northwest of France, their consumption is nowadays widespread in France.
Crêpes are made by pouring a thin liquid batter onto a hot frying pan or flat circular hot plate. Our savory crêpes include: cheese, spinach, eggs, and various meat products. Our sweet crepesinclude: melted Belgian chocolate, whipped cream, ice cream, Nutella, bananas, berries, nuts, cinnamon etc. Popular sweet toppings include sugar (granulated or powdered), maple syrup, lemon juice, whipped cream, fruit spreads, sliced soft fruits, etc. Dear Crepe Club Fans! We are excited to continue serving you your favorite crepe at The Scottsdale Fashion Square mall, located in the food court on the East end of the mall by Sephora.
Our neighbor, Williams Sonoma, is expanding to accommodate and offer more to their customers. Unfortunately, that means we need to move out of our space. We know this may cause an inconvenience, however, we look forward to continuing to serve you! You are important to us and we will still be serving all of your favorites. We are also excited to announce some new locations coming up, as we continue to grow. This tradition has brought many amazing memories to our lives, and we have made it our goal to share those memories when we rolled in the first Crepe Cart to ASU's Tempe Campus over a year ago. Whisking ingredients in a large wobbly bowl, a messy countertop drenched in flour, PJ's marked with Nutella stains, and faces covered with powdered sugar; those are all beautiful moments in life that we hope other families can cherish and enjoy like we have. It all starts with crepe batter, and here's a simpler variation of our original recipe: Ingredients (makes about 18-20 crepes)
Mix dry ingredients together in a bowl. Melt the butter in the microwave or in a saucepan on a stovetop. Add wet ingredients (milk and eggs) in a separate deep bowl. Using a hand immersion mixer, incorporate about 1/3 of the dry mix into the wet ingredients. Add the butter, then add another 1/3 of the dry mix. Mix until smooth. Add the last 1/3 of the dry mix and leave the hand mixer in the batter for 10 minutes. Strain the batter through a wood handle strainer into a new bowl. Use a spatula to scrape the strainer to prevent it from getting clogged. And voila! Your Crepe batter is ready to hit a hot pan! National Crepe Day is Thursday, February 2 and we want to be sure everyone can celebrate. Guests will be able to get a FREE Nutella or Parisian (butter and sugar) crepe at any of our three locations. National Crepe Day comes from the French tradition of La Chandeleur – the commemoration of the Catholic holiday of Candlemas, when the Virgin Mary presented the baby Jesus. Over the years it became knowns as “jour de crepes” – or Crepe Day – perhaps because the Pope at the time was known for feeding crepes to the pilgrims who visited the church. Tradition says that those who can successfully flip a crepe in a pan while holding a coin in one hand will be prosperous for the rest of the year.
Thankfully, you will not need luck – or a coin – to enjoy a crepe on February 2! Gilbert has a new spot for those looking to satisfy their craving for crepes!
